a deep night in hutong
This project was a project formed by accident. One night I worked overtime until 3:00 a.m. and there was no sign that the whole job was over, so I took my camera and walked randomly through the Hutong in Beijing. At night the Hutong is completely different from the daytime, in the daytime you can see all kinds of people and hear all kinds of voices, but at night, all that disappears.
But as I explored the late-night alleyways, I found that there was a strange attraction to things at night, like the ancient gods spoken of in Cthulhu Mythos. In the flashing lights, everything is noisy and vibrant, and it seemed that the devil crawled out and told me of the desires and sins of the living. And the world is no longer owned by human beings, but by these objects of life that have been abandoned by humans.
“Wer mit Ungeheuern kämpft, mag zusehn, daß er nicht dabei zum Ungeheuer wird. Und wenn du lange in einen Abgrund blickst, blickt der Abgrund auch in dich hinein.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil
